Emma Griffiths – Care team manager

Describe your job:
A big part of my role is supporting the care team. I also help residents with personal care, make care plan reviews, carry out administrative tasks, support the medical team, and liaise with community mental health nurses.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
We take time to sit down with our residents and listen to them talk about their lives; sometimes we’re their only source of companionship. It’s lovely to be able to give something back.

Do you find your job satisfying?
If I can help a resident who is feeling confused or anxious, it’s the most rewarding feeling in the world. To know that you are able to make a real difference to someone, and put a smile back on their face, is so satisfying.

What do you like most about working for CH?
We look after a diverse range of dementia sufferers so every day is different. There’s always lots going on and you’re kept on your toes.

Chloe Hazell – Senior carer

Describe your job:
I give out medication, liaise with doctors, and carry out care work.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
We’re dealing with people with different types and stages of dementia so the work is always interesting. It’s great to see them improve, especially when they get better at mobilising. Hearing their different stories is also lovely.

Do you find your job satisfying?
Yes, it’s great to give something back. I feel very grateful that I can learn from the wisdom of the residents too.

What do you like most about working for CH?
The care team is excellent and there is a great community atmosphere here. It’s a lively place, and the residents are lovely.

Deena McCormack – Activities coordinator

Describe your job:
I plan activities and entertainment in the home and the community. I proactively find out what the residents’ talents are. We have an arts exhibition planned for next year. I’m also talking to a local pub to see if they can host a quiz night using questions designed by one of our residents (an ex-quiz master!).

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love my job. The residents are the best people. It’s instantly rewarding too – when you see the smiles on their faces. Dementia is a terrible disease, but there’s also a lot of life left in everyone. It’s rewarding to help build their confidence by enabling them to carry on doing the activities they enjoy.

Do you find your job satisfying?
It can be a challenge but humour is a massive part of this job. The residents love to laugh, and it’s my job to make them feel like they’re on holiday. When they ask me if they can stay another week, I know I’m doing a good job!

What do you like most about working for CH?
CH is very supportive of my ideas. Some ideas sound may unconventional at first, but they try to accommodate every niche. The channels of communication are open to listen to what I’ve got to say.
